Default Rev limiter?

I was under the impression that my '95 LT1 would back off the accelerator at 5500 to prevent over revving the engine. She just flew up to 6000 with no sign of backing off before I took some foot out of the pedal. Is there a limiter? If so, is it part of the computer program, or somewhere else?

should come in at 5800rpm or somewhere around the 6 mark on your tach. at least it's supose to, stock LT1 bottom ends start getting into trouble over 6200rpm.

Factory tachs are off by around 200 RPM on purpose.

The rev limiter kicks in at 5800.

I take mine up to 6000 a lot, I won't hit the rev limiter till I'm past 6000.

Stock rev limiter is set at close to 5857. The tach is off and you'll notice that in first gear you'll hit the rev limiter on a lower spot on your tach than you do in second or third. In first gear your engine accelerates so fast that the tach can't keep up so you'll hit it earlier on the tach.

In my case the rev limiter is set to 6500. At the track I hit the limiter in first right at 6000 or so says the tach but I don't hit it in second or third until a good ways past. That's why I added a shift light. It will always come on at the same RPM.

For my '96 the limiter (according to LT1 Edit) in first is 5886 and 5805 in all other gears.

Using EFI Live it shows my WOT shift points at 5682 for the 1-2 shift and 5628 for the 2-3 (only ran it up to 120mph... with 2.59's it never shifts to 4th at WOT... unless you run the LT4 program. Then it shifts to 4th at 160mph :) )

Your post mentions "back off the accelerator" associated with the rev limiter.

RPM limiting may be accomplished by a computer using injector pulse width modulation (decreases fuel-arguably less responsive in some systems), or a system can use spark control for halting/decreasing RPM. NOT SURE how the LT1/4 system works. Some body help me out. Was thinking it was pulse width. Pretty sure some aftermarket ignition products do a very good job on rev limiting. Maybe it's the MSD line some LT1/LT4 folks seem to prefer.

A system using the manual throttle push back is the Acceleration Slip Regulation (ASR). This system selects from manual throttle push back, braking action induced by the computer, or timing retard.

Well, now that I'm confused I'll just move on.
