My '86 had a nasty rattle coming from behind the dash. After tearing EVERYTHING apart and driving the car with the dash innards exposed, I found it, and no wonder it was making noise. The C4 dash structure is designed so that its main support is anchored to the top of the transmission tunnel by four 10mm screws. All of these screws were loose on mine, and the resulting squeak/rattle was horrendous. If you want to check these, you will need to remove the center dash trim plate and the radio to get at them, but it is still easier than taking the dash off.

Damn it ....what about the rattle comming from the rear of the compartment.....like in the back....by the rear window????

As far as what you guys are talking about....have no problems with the front....just the rear??????????
