Maybe next time I'm in Ca. My whole point in this is for anyone else following this thread. RUN if the shop(s) tell you the BS that I first referred to. A quality shop would have checked this before suggesting a "complete teardown". Glad you're rolling.

I can't believe that the shop never tested the tcc solenoid.
They probably just saw a paycheck, or you were already settled on a rebuild...

Either way, fresh trans and lockup works!

Testing the solenoid would have shown what? There was nothing wrong with it!

They did test the solenoid and it worked. lol

But yes I had already decided I was going to rebuild but more importantly modify it to suit my needs and MAN does it do that now! bought all the bits here and there over several months.. got a TC and threw it together. I got a really good deal on the R&R. I also fixed the rear main seal (no more oil leak ). The fact that it just needed a brake switch is a bit ironic? that all 3 shops didnt think to do this simple test/fix. Nonetheless the transmission has changed the entire attitude of the car if that makes any sense. If shifts fast and hard.. If you are just putting around it shifts much softer but just as fast. This changes the way I feel about A4 cars.

Today I went for a sunday cruise and its ALMOST as fun as driving the LT4.. I mean the difference between stock and now is night and day. I lowered it a bit last night too.
