The CD player in my 96 doesn't work, it keeps spitting out the CD's and says "err" on the screen. I have a good radio/CD player from a 94, are they the same radio? They look the same but I'm sure there's a difference that will keep the '94 radio from working in the '96 because that's how things always seem to work out for me. Any help is appreciated.
Hi TheGreek!
I have the same issue on my 95, but only when I try to play CDs that I've duplicated. Store-bought ones play OK. Have you tried it with a 'real' recorded CD? If you find a solution, I'd be interested in knowing what you did.

All the CD's I've tried in it were "real" store bought CD's, not copies. All of them were like new with no scratches. The CD goes in and then shortly afterwards the radio spits it out and says "err" on the screen.
GM players have problems with burnt cds. Something about fragments in the recorded tracks. Dealer could tell you model / part number of the head unit that's supposed to be in car and then compare it to earlier player
Does ANYBODY know if a radio from a '94 will work in a '96? If I'm not mistaken the '96 radio has some sort of feature that increases and decreases the volume with the vehicle speed to compensate for road noise, does the '94 radio have that feature?
Generally people don't put older systems into new cars. Reach out to https://www.doctordons.com/ they might give you an answer regarding 94 and 96. Used by many here in the past to repair existing head-units.

that feature is on the boze gold system. my 89 had it and carried up to the 96 c4. i have a 94 and a 96 and the radio receivers look the same and the wiring looks the same.
I was able to fix the CD player in the '96 radio yesterday, all I did was remove the top cover of the radio and blow some compressed air into it in the hopes that it was just some dust or something on the eye that reads the CD. That did the trick, the CD player works great now.
