.....changed their own hand brake assembly? I'm no mechanic BTW.
My baby left me stranded last night in the rain and wet snow after the hand brake wouldn't release. After a couple of hours waiting for the tow truck and trying like heck to figure out how to release the darn thing, my saviour with a flat bed and some tools (and a little 'Vette knowledge) showed up and relesed the mechanism for me; so I was able to drive home.
Now, should I take this to a qualified Mech. and get a new assembly/mechanism or can they be easily repaired/replaced in my garage? I need help here guys....I don't even know why it does this (this is the second time, the first time I had a mechanic release it)........thanks for any help you can give me.
After driving in the rain and slush, I've always been taught to not use the handbrake because it will freeze to the caliper. Now I'm not trying to be a jerk, but since you have so few posts, do you know how to operate the handbrake properly? I know it took me a few times to figure it out, and when I do use it (which is rare) I always need a couple tries to get it to release.
Yes, I am aware on how the brake operates; I got a lesson when I bought the car :yesnod: What happens is, when the brake is pulled on the whole mechanism "springs back" as if it was yanked up well past the set point, there is no tension for the release mech. to work now; I can actually pull the handle completely up. Any thoughts on the best way to fix this. Thanks.
