As noted in an earlier post my seems to have a very small coolant leak from somewhere, someone recomended using some of the aluminum dust tpye stopleak...I just wanna know if its OK to use in a Vette due to the trans cooler and oil cooler...thanks :seeya
Personally I wouldn't put anything like that in any of my engines, but that's just me. It may be safer and cheaper in the long run to just track down that leak. It might be something simple like a loose hose clamp or something. Besides, you now officially have an excuse for a weekend project...:D
You really need to find where the leak is coming from. I had a similar situation and it turned out to be the water pump. It would only leak after the car was turned off and it was cooling down. Put your hand under the shaft of the water pump and see if it is wet.
It looks as if you have an early c4 so not sure ;but on my lt1 it states that you put GM stop leak in after every flush !To be quite honest I didn't though. :nono:
go to a rad shop and ask them, the one i go to here uses some kind of organic stop leak, he says its safer for your system
Bars Stop leak has an organic type....i tried it, and for what it's worth, it worked for a while, but the leak is back.....its almost time to pull the motor so the radiator will have to come out, at that time, it will get replaced!!!!!
stop leak is a BANDAID not a cure :nono: ........always find the leak and repair it........its like mopping the floor dry when the pipe is whats broken!!!

The organic type is safe to use in our vehicles... I talked to a Cadillac powertrain engineer about this very thing... The aluminum Northstar motors require this (our's state it's required also, according to the shop manual)... From what I remember him telling me, it's ground up ginger root... When it finds a leak it gets pulled into the hole and when explosed to air dries/expands to stop the leak...
He did warn me about using aluminum or metal type of repair/conditioners...
Now I wouldn't use it to try to fix a waterpump leak or head gasket failure, but it might help in the case of something like a pinhole in the radiator or heater core if that's what you're looking at...
Don't use any type of stop leak. It's the lazy way out. You should find out where its leaking and fix the seal/gasket. all that stuff does essentially is expand the seal or ruber gasket. It's rigging, and not the "right" way to do it. NOT ON MY CAR BUDDY!! It's all Chemistry...eventually that stuff will go away and the seal/leak will be worse! and as far as coolant leaks....that crap wears out your pump! grinds up your bearings and stuff. Fix it right! for ONCE!
