Re: Shiftlights: What's a good setup? (FastVette94)
I have a harlan shift light in my 92. I've got it mounted in the vent as in the website above. I'm very happy with it so far.
I installed mine using the tach output from my MSD box, but you can use the factory tach output. I don't think you'll have to bypass the tach filter but I don't know for sure. Mine is bypassed but that is because of the MSD, not the shift light.
Re: Shiftlights: What's a good setup? (FastVette94)
I'm running the stock ignition/tach but I want to use a shiftlight because my motor pulls to 6500 (stock tach ends at 6000).
Do I have to use an MSD control box to hook up a tach? Can I tie in somewhere? I want to use a mini-shift light if possible.
Yo! Same exact story here - 6K tack, shift mid-6K's. Went with the MSD mini, controlled by a seperate MSD RMP-activated switch. About 1/2" x 3", it's unobtrusive on the steering column but pleny bright - even in sunlight. The RPM-activated switch get it's signal from the tach output of my MSD-6AL, and takes those goofy plug-in "pills". Some guys actually hide the mini light in an HVAC vent, but me thinks it's waaay too  to hide. Very happy with this setup.
:seeya

Harlan shift light installed in vent. Works great. Only trick is getting itto saty in the posistion you want. I just used some small pieces of rubber to wedge it in position. Any other method to hold it in place?
