My 383 is pinging according to my mechanic and the last dyno guy. Ok, the chip was looked at and everything is bang on there. The base timing is 6 degrees. My mechanic threw his snap on diagnostic tool and went for a few WOT runs. He said the timing is fine and not a problem there. I run 93 octane gas all the time. He did suggest getting new plugs, although they looked a tan color and said they weren't too bad. I have an obnoxiously loud exhaust :D and a single mass DRM aluminum flywheel which does cause a rattle in neutral and at low RPMs. He suggested to get a new knock sensor. I have been on 65Z01's website and saw that he suggested going to GM PN # 16038331 in order to cure this problem.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to what could be causing this knock or ping or detonation, if it's not the base timing, chip timing, actual timing (verified with snap on scanner) and octance issue (run 93 exclusively).
I am hoping that a simple knock sensor swap will cure all, but someone help please.
*********EDIT************
THe compression ratio on paper is 9.2-9.3 :1 and a static compression test showed 160-170 psi.
Anyone have an idea of where to buy a replacement knock sensor?
gmpartsdirect.com wants like $45 for one. Who would be a supporting vendor for this?
