Default Crossfire to Multiport

I was curious if it was possible to change a 1984 crossfire to 1985 Multi Port fuel injection. And if you think it would be a good idea? And also I would like some oppinions on the accel pro ram.

Thank You.

Yes you can, but you have to change EVERYTHING, meaning the intake, fuel pump, computer, sensors and the wiring harness. I also heard from one guy that there are differences in the cluster wiring and speedo sensor? I wanted to do this to mine but it would have cost me in excess of $3000 CDN:eek: . So I passed on it. I'm just gonna mess around with the crossfire:rolleyes: .

It is a lot of work to go with a stock tpi set up. To go with the accel unit costs upward of $3K doesn't it? Depends on how much you want to spend and what your intended use for the car? I am getting ready to drop a ZZ4 crate motor in my 84. I have a Smokey Yunnick SY-1 intake that will be modified to use the cross fire throttle bodies, adding Hooker 2149 Headers. It should pull over 300 HP, which is good enough for me in this car.

I think the Accel units and the Holley ones, are in the US$900.00 ~ US$1800.00 or so.

If I had to make the choice, I would consider that route.

ultimately, they are about as good as a modern injection system gets.

Yes I have just completed an 84 Crossfire to 85 TPI . I had to change engine wiring harness to 85 and computer , ALso don't for get burn off realay for mas air flow sennsor. replaced all a/c brackets,P/s brackets, alt brackets,A.I.R. pump and bracket, This will all went under 84 hood with out any hood mods. Only thing is finding new cold air in take and air filter thers not room for stock 85 air cleaner and cold air intake WITHOUT HOOD MODS for clearence. Only real wiring changes are for A/C wiring changes run 3 new wires for sensors to coputer. Also remove 84 timer in dash harness harness for old cold start its hard to find but its there behind center cluster realay taped to harness in small plastic box remove circut bord is all ya need to remove. Also t/v cable . Throttle cable, and cruse control cable Dont forget bracket for 85 cruse control bracket it fits nicely over battery. All instruments work without any mods including fuel meter don't know how its clabraited but it works . The only easy part of job is fuel pump replacement 85 pump it removes with sender from top of tank in about 30 min. use 85 fuel lines from fuel rails to filter. Also replaced all rubber fuel lines by sender and fuel filter double clamping on all conections. It cost 1,300 for all this stuff from Viking truck in Redding Ca. I think he has 1 more setup.AS you see spelling is not for me so call if you need info 360 756 1849 ASK FOR GARY :smash:  :seeya

Its a lot of work to only be as fast as an 85. Its not really nite and day if your CFI runs good. Plus it can get expensive if you dont find a deal like the guy that just did it. In this market you could sell yours add the conversion money and buy a late 86 or newer and have a better gain for less work. I had an 84 and was glad i stayed stock. Mine was strong though with a few mods, but i made out selling it.
