This is going to be close!! Are you guy with autos wrapping your y pipes? I wish I would have read Scorps post about putting on two sets of header gaskets :cry Any body have ploblem with getting them to seal?
Test fit your y-pipe first. I had to use a mallet to bang mine in a little in a couple of spots so that it wouldn't make contact with the oilpan on the overdrive unit of my 4+3.
Hmm, I didn't wrap the headers. But I _did_ insulate a brand spankin new NAPA starter as It didn't want to deal with is a second time.
It's now the THIRD friggen time I get to swap the starter out. Second NAPA starter was inadequate to task.
Also, very soon after startup, I noticed the left hand header flange rubbed a slot in the tranny tunnel. I REALLY got worried about that, but after 2500 miles, it didn't get any worse.
Also, compared to a non-ceramic coated header that was fibreglass wrapped, your Ceramic coated headers will feel much cooler in the passenger compartment.
I also had to bang/testfit the Y pipe first. The coating was real thick and a problem. I also Thermo tec blanketed the starter a year ago and have had no problem. Other than melting a starter wire, that moved after a month, and the plug wire that I forgot to put back in the loom. The black plastic cover for the wiring harness seems to be real brittle these days, near the brake booster. But knock on wood, the header gasket to block has been perfect. :yesnod:
i tried telling you to buy the double thick aluminum gaskets :) see how the ones you have work & don't bother unless you have leaking issues. i think the next time i order from summit i'll get a extra set to keep on hand...who know someone might need them :D
The manifold flange on the Headman Headers I have has ~1/8" gap at 1 end.
The machine shop that did my 383 said they cut the flange in 2 places with a hack saw. One cut between the 1st pipe and the two center pipes and another cut between the last pipe and the two center pipes.
This allows the flanges to bolt up to the heads with less twisting and flexing. I used Stage 8 header bolts to clamp everything down. :smash:
