Default ‘94 LT1 auto trans refresh

I’ve got somewhat of a bad transmission leak, by bad I mean it’ll probably take 6 months for me to even notice any sort of oil loss but any leak is a bad leak to me so I’d like to go ahead and get it fixed. I’m planning on having all the seals replaced just to freshen everything up but i was wondering if there’s anything else I should do to it such as parts that are known to break or just weak points in the trans. I want to eventually get this thing to 500rwhp so anything that will break before reaching that I’d like to go ahead and replace. I will be doing a new converter but is there anything else in these trans that are known to fail or known for being bad?

for 500 rwhp you should need the equivalent of a Sonnax Level 3 build

https://www.sonnax.com/tech_resource...n-build-charts

plus some very good cooling for the transmission.

you have embarked on an expensive project to get to that hp level, unless you use some type of power adder, in which case you will still eventually break things and end up being expensive anyway

Not quite sure of your goals here. How many miles on the existing box? Where exactly is the leak coming from?(could be as simple as a filler tube grommet) What do you mean by "having all the seals replaced? Just the front and tailstock seals or the internal lip seals and O-rings? Since you say you are replacing the converter anyways, I would replace the front seal and leave the internals alone. You say you want to eventually get to 500 HP. Is this a sure thing or a "wish list"? If it's a "someday" thing, I would drive it as is. If the 500 is a sure thing, then, as stated above, you will need more than just replacing a few known weak parts.

If the 500 is a sure thing, then,
you will have to be easy on the rear end also. Auto cars are equipped with a Dana 36. The manual trans cars got the much stronger Dana 44. Enough HP and Torque, plus a good hookup will detonate the D36.

The cars were built to the level that they needed to be at, not what we WANT them to be at.

Do some research on a Dana 44 swap here on the forum. 500 HP opens up Pandoras box of needed upgrades. Unfortunately, the auto equipped driveline is just not as strong as the
manual trans cars driveline.

Its a someday thing, not in a huge rush to get it done I want to just slowly build it up. From what i can tell it’s coming out of the rear speedo sensor area and maybe a little from where the driveshaft goes in and also leaking from the front of the pan and there’s dark oil coming out from around the bell housing area I can’t tell if it’s engine oil or if it’s tranny oil though some of its dark and some is red so maybe both, entire cars got 87k on it.
