I'm buying parts for my Superram. Fasteners specifically. Some of the holes to the runners have already been drilled out by the previous owner. I got some hardware when I bought the manifold but not all of it. I am assuming putting 1/4-28 bolts through and putting on self locking nuts? If lock nuts are used, what type would be best? Nylon inserts in the nuts are good to 250 degrees F according to the specs I see on the nuts. Is that temperature okay? Would a flex top type self locking hex nut be better? Wouldn't a locking hex nut of some type be better than a lock washer and nut?
on mine, i have four Allen head bolts down from the plenum into the runners which were tapped for 5/16” bolts. These are the 4 inner bolts which are the hardest to get to. The bolt heads have a hole drilled in them and are mechanic wired together and loctited with red loctite.
I would not trust nylocs. I would want some kind of additional mechanical backup.
all other Allen bolts screw up from the runners and into the plenum. I helicoiled every single hole in the plenum to make sure I wasn’t worried about the aluminum stripping out.
If you take a Allen wrench, you can cut the short end down and make install a lot easier.
Ive had mine on / off probably 6 times.
If you haven’t done your fuel pressure regulator , do it before you install. You can’t get to it after the super ram is on. Also ditch those torx security bolts and get some thing more common.
