I found an odd piece of metal in my spare parts box. It's about 4" x 10" and labelled "Fuel Filter Heat Shield," but I sure can't figure out how or where it mounts to the frame. The car is a '91 6-speed. The simple fact it was in my spare parts box leads me to believe I've had this problem before! Suggestions?
I'm not aware of any C4 being delivered with a heat shield on the fuel filter. The in-tank pumps in modern EFI vehicles prevent vapor lock from occurring, so I'd either ash-can that item, or hang onto it if you think it might have been used on some older carbureted vehicle that you still own.
6C -6 in your FSM for an image that shows hardware! Should look like this! If you did the disassembly it should be obvious! Did you get the fuel supply/return lines sorted? The parts SPO shows no better image as to location.
Well, it's a poor day when we don't learn something new. Thanks for educating me. Looks as though this was discontinued after the run of L98 cars? I've never owned one of those.
I have one on my 91, two bolts that screw up into the frame hold it in place. I know it well because the nuts should be captive in the frame. One of mine came loose, took me a while to cut the bolt so I could change the filter
