Every now and then, I will see "sys" flash on the instrument display two or three times, then quit. And I won't see it again for quite some time.
This seems to occur at random intervals and doesn't seem to make any difference if I have any accessories on or not. It happens during the day and during nighttime and there is no consistent pattern or frequency of occurance.
Anyone have a clue as to what is causing this? Nothing ever happens. It just flashes and then quits.
If it is on the instrument panel and not on the DIC, then it may indicate a low battery. Put a meter on your battery and see what's happening. Also, be sure your bat. terminals are clean and tight.
Ehhh? What's a DIC? I usually run with the "EST MPG" showing to the left of the fuel level bar graph. What will happen is the "EST MPG" will go off and in its place, the SYS will flash two or three times in succession and then it will go back to the EST MPG indicator.
The DIC is the message center above the radio. Since it is flashing in your instrument panel, it usually indicates a low battery or related connections. Poss. alternator not putting out correct voltage.
I had this happen last weekend. SYS showed up in the main instrument area over the digital gauge readout/ fuel mileage info area. Owner's Manual said that it is an electrical problem. Starter would then hardly turn over. Finally, just starter relay clicking, then nothing, no electrical power. I got a jump start, car started. Ran car about 60 miles to charge up battery, got home and battery dead again. I replaced the battery, two years old, and now no problems, no sys reading.
