The 4+3 shifter is different from the traditional 4-speed shifters in that it bolts to the body instead of the transmission. Reverse is in the OD unit so the Reverse shifter rod is different in terms of length. There is no provision for bolting a shifter to the trans housing or the OD unit case.
Maybe the bushing at each end of the rods are worn causing the notchy feel. Or the shifter is simply out of adjustment.
