How much power can the stock drivetrain on a 84 Corvette take till it breaks, Transmission, IRS rear axel, driveshaft? Which one would break at which point? ;)
You might want to let us know what your exact plans are & we can help u better with your needs for the information that you seek. :D
It is easier to say, "I am thinking about dropping in ______ with ______ and ________ , oh yeah I almost forgot this ____________________ & I might even be doing this modification : _______________________."
So let us know and I can help you out. I just dropped my tranny, engine, exhaust, rebuild front & back completely and I can tell you from experience, DAMN IT FEELS GOOD TO BE A GANGSTA
Thanks for that. Well I'm planin on droppin in a F-body LS1 with a stock tranny, driveshaft, and rear axel for now untill I buy a 4L80E transmission and a Solid Axel kit from RPM Frank which will be out by Jan 2003. I guestamate the engine makes 320hp. I just want to know If my tranny will last long enough untill I get the rear solid axel and tranny? :yesnod:
Thanks for the info Vader, since you have 15,000 posts when did you become a member of corvetteforum. Also would the LS1 even match up to the motor mounts in my 84 vette and will it clear everything right?

That i dont know, it should clear the hood and all, but i dont know about the mounts or whether itll clear the crossmember. It should, but i'm just guessing.
If you plan on doing the LS1 swap to just get more power (i.e. - you're not doing it for shows, self gratification, etc), it is a complete waste of time, effort, and $$$. If you simply want more power, drop a new SBC in there, built up, supercharged, Nitroused, and take the money you save and buy a boat or something. The amount of custom fabrication and simply the cost of a new LS1 engine would allow you to drop 3 or 4 new built SBCs in there.
Of course, if you are going to do it just to see if you can, then....
Okay what about a big block chevy engine, most likely a 454cid or a 468cid engine. Would that fit into the car. Another thing is that a lot of people are selling their used LS1's for $2,500 I have two guy's wanting to sell me it and they both have around 33K miles on them. The other reason why I was leaning toward an LS1 was that since my ecm in my corvette can only support two injectors(which I could double to run 4) and that would be like a 4bbl tbi almost a carburator. Plus the fact that the big block would cost me 3,250 plus about 1,250 on an intake Tbi's fuel pump, regulator and that kind of stuff. So I was thinking that hey an LS1 look's pretty cool, it will hopefully save me 2g's over the big block swap and will keep my totall weight down, and sawe me some gas. The only draw back is the engine is used, parts are $$$ and I cannot make as much power as a big block. Draw backs of the big block are it weighs to much, cost to get the project started and the engine to run in my car is a bit higher than the small block. So what do you guy's think, which way should I go? :)
I think I'll just go with a 468CID big block and a 4L80 transmission that handle 1200hp from http://www.transmissioncenter.net . This way I could later on bore and stroke this engine to a 525CID and run a blower and make that much power and even more torque, like 14 or 1500ft lbs. :yesnod: Screw the LS1 then I'm going big block! :chevy :yesnod: :yesnod: :yesnod: :yesnod:
OH dont be jelous that when I bang my GF my mojo accidently hit you all the way over there. If you read the response correctly it says 1500ft lbs of torque not HP you little piece of ostrage crap wraped in a used condom. Ding dong dont try to cap I'll clown on you real bad. :yesnod:
