Re: Anybody running a manual rack??????? (mackeyred96)
Mack, you know you can always rely on me to have tried things before many others. :nono:
I converted my stock power rack to a manual unit.
If you are not driving straight ahead, It handles like a Duece and Ahalf. :jester ....really....no kidding. I also replaced my HoseBag steering wheel with an aftermarket wheel (alittle smaller) . This also *********** the problem. Oh sorry, I meant to say exacerbates. If you run front skinnies as I do, then it would be liveable.

So you filled the power rack with fluid and pluged up the holes.
WOW the that tech stuff I used back in the 60's.
I guess it still holds up today.
If I can wrestle a 19,000 lb truck with 22" rims and 30" tall tires thru the turns with manual steering, I believe it should be no problem for you in a 'vette with skinnies.
Now, have you ever noticed how a car with manual steering is easier to steer than a car with power steering that has lost power?
If you are truly going to convert to manual steering(not plugging up holes, but actually replacing), I think it would be no problem. But keeping a power steering system in place with no power going to it, I don't see the point unless you are looking to eliminate the pulley for the pump.
John,
Phil & I both eliminated the pump, plus all the other junk part way thru this season. OK for a track car, but I wouldn't try parallel parking! We looped the pump hose on the rack just like everybody did in the 60s-70s on a PS box :D .
Mojo is correct about the non ps cars being easier than a disfunctional ps car.
Are you looking into this to have less sensitive steering when going so fast at the track or what. I really am wondering why you would want this. I've driven a road race car before that was an absolute monster. It would probably run low 10s if you could hook it up, and in a straight line, I never had trouble controling it.
