Default Impala Head Gaskets

Should I go with them while doing my heads and Cam ? Will I have a detonation problem on 91 octane ? Does in work to improve performance over the stock LT1 head gaskets ?

A lot of people run them without any troubles. I know several people who run them because it raises the compression a little bit. 93 octane isn't hard to come by here either.

If you're unsure you can't go wrong with the stock replacement gasket.

Is there a noticeable difference in power that can be attributed this increase in compression? If I ended up considering this, is it something I'd have to have the computer programmed around (ie add a little more fuel).

The guys over at More Performance recommend them. This is also one of the low budget HP tricks the F-Body/3rd Gen. crowd uses it is a common performance mod with the LT series motor. I've used them before; the crushed thickness is .029 as compared to .049 on the Alum Vette LT1. With a stock LT1 short block & heads you should go from around 10.4:1 to about 10.8:1, double check those figures, but they will be close. Your other option is the Fel-Pro 1074's they measure .039 compressed. Your PCM will be able to compensate if that is all you do to the engine. And yes it will increase both low end torque & HP, it’s not just the increased compression it’s also the reduced deck height that in turn increases the quench effect you get between the flat area adjacent to the combustion chamber and the piston. :yesnod:
