Had a problem with my car stalling and seemed like it wasnt getting gas so I took it to Firestone, since it was the closest, and had them change the fuel filter thinking this is what it was. They kept pushing the $99 diagnostics. Well, the fuel filter was not the problema and they said it was primary ignitions failure. They told me I would have to have the Distributor overhauled. Cost: Ignition Control Module $98, Ignition Coil $59 and pickup coil $59 and labor $200. I looked up in Chilton and saw how easy it was to change out these parts and told them I would do the work. Well, thats when the problem started
They let me speak to the tech and he told me I had a loose connector and he would tighten and that may fix me for awhile. Raised eyebrow. Well after picking up it ran fine and notices one of my connectors brackets was broke to the dist, which I knew was broken. Could this have just came loose a little and caused my problem and they were just trying to "get me"? By the way I bought the parts needed at Autozone for $35 and I havent replaced yet and car is still fine. I put a ty strap around broken connector. Should I try to get money back?
Re: Firestone problem(what do you think?) (aroulette)
Several years ago I was going to buy a used CJ7 and thought it a good idea to have the car checked out first. I brought it to a Firestone Center and they did a full computer diagnosis for about $100 plus changed fans belts. They said the Jeep was in fine shape and recommended I buy it. Well the Jeep never made it home as it overheated on the highway. I had to have it towed to a garage in Prescott. There they replaced the radiator and distributor. I drove the Jeep home and the next morning it would not only not start but the clutch pedal went to the floor and I could not shift it. Long story short this Jeep cost me a lot of money to get running and I sold it as soon as I could. I stay away from anything with the Firestone name.
a C4 corvette fuel filter is roughly $10 and takes less than ten minutes to change. $67 is awful high for loosening a couple lines that are in plain sight. the fuel filter is about as hard to change as the oil.
