Just fitted headers and converter
Well i have fitted my 2500rpm GM converter that i got a while back with help from Vic89 and Jeff Kopp with no problems so far. I did it on axle stands, with a trans jack it took me about 10 hours over 2 days taking it steady. It will be another week or so before i get to run her so i hope everything is good :D
The other job i have done is to fit my new headers  This has been an interesting job  I just have not got the Dollars for the Hooker or TPIS headers so i went for the Heddman Headers at $109 From summit :D
Cheap and cheerful they are but being a metal worker by trade i was not to worried about some of the horror stories i had heard and can now offer the following info for anyone on a budget like me who does not mind a bit of work.
First they are 1.5/8 dia and have no air fittings at that price. They seem to be of reasonable design and fit from under the car without removing anything at all. I have added an 02 bung on the outside 9 o clock position, and can say my set fit the chassis very well with plenty of clearence everywere. They sit at the same level as the front cross member so ground clearence should not be an issue.
:boxing The only issue i found with these headers is on my 1990 car the top of the header tube sits about .100 thou below the top of the ex port so there was a step. I have elongated the holes to get the header in the correct position and then welded on the bolt tubes from my original manifolds to ensure they aline correctley :D
They now fit perfectly and i am very pleased with them so far. Oh ceramic coated i here you say :smash: Would you believe i make combustors for jet engines and we use ceramic on the combustor walls, so guess were they are now
So with the exception of the coating if you are prepared to do a bit of work and don't have much cash they are not a bad buy, I just wish i had the $400 dollers i have saved to do more to my car
Just got to do the exhaust front to back now with balance pipe and she will be good to go.
That convertor should work very well for you. It's a GM item, so there should be no worries about fitment issues. I hope you added some Tranny fluid to the convertor before the install.
Let us know when you get the car running again.
Vic
Looks like with all the work you've done, you should be happy, happy, happy....
congrat's
tony
