I've had a slightly rough idle for awhile. I now get code 32. I took the egr valve off and the diaphram appears to work well. However, when the valve is closed, it does not seal completely. Should it?
Can I take it apart to clean it? What the best method to clean? I suspect carbon build up.
I used throttle body cleaner and q-tips to clean mine, until the tb cleaner would pool in the cavity w/the valve's pintle closed, with negligible leak down thus indicating the pintle was sealing pretty well. A new one is about $44 from Jeff Kopp @ 1-800-728-8267 (Superior Chevrolet)

Re: EGR Valve leaking? (cOvette)
Well, for reference it will come appart. I clamped the round thing surrounding the pintle and screwed it out. It is now soaking in Carb cleaner.
I'll save that $44-$70 yet!
The manual specifically says not to expose the diaphragm to harsh solvents. Oh well, this is how I cleaned mine, despite reading that. $70 seems like a steep price to pay for a stupid little valve.
