Default Trans swapping specialist please help

Hey guys, I have done lots o reading here over the years, I know there's a guy y'all consider "the man" but have forgotten his name, hopefully he will chime in. Here is my deal will try and.keep it short. I bought an 84 new w the automatic, lived in garage hardly ever drove it. I got in a bind years ago and sold it to my uncle who has always been a gear head, had an L88 back in the day. The car had 30k on it when sold and it was 10-12 years old. He let his son drive it who was 19, he gouged the he'll out of it and blew the motor. My uncle pulled the motor and went through it, only used the block everything else is totl stuff, dart heads, went back aluminum intake and carb, has a cam, makes around 475hp. So it then immediately blows tranny, has it rebuilt to hold up to 600, then needed 4 tires lol. So he gets all this done and now w new rubber he can limb it out. The dash blew out out at 140mph, nothing worked. So he drove it to the house, parked it, bought a new truck. The car has been sitting under an oak tree in his yard now for 15 years. My uncle passed last year at 66, my aunt said come get this thing outta my yard. I plan on pulling motor and trans amd putting it in my 79 square body half ton which has a POS 305 and T350 now. So, here I am, what do I need to know, buy, for it to bolt up. See alot of swaps on YT but reading here it seems the 700 in sharks are a bit different so not sure what I need if anything. I also would like to have that ac unit in my truck since its all there, and the truck has ac it just dont work. I have tried to parlay this into "hey if you will pull this motor and trans for me I will sign over the car to you" type deal but no takers around here. Car now has around 40k on it, begging for an all out BB w a T400 and a trip to The Texas Mile for a 200mph pass, just cant find the right guy yet. It's that funky gold or bronze color. I think the motor is fine dont you guys, it has anti freeze etc plus i'm in SE Texas it dont get cold anyway. This motor has less than 1000 miles on it, same w tranny. The trans is my main concern here, thanks.....Roost

No, the vette has a brand new motor and trans, I wanna pull it out and put in my 79 1/2T lwb truck, and give the vette away. It has under 40k on it. What I need to know is about the swap from the th350 to the 700r4 vette tranny. What am I gonma run into to hook up that Tran, my truck is 2wd. I have read all I need to do is move cross member back, everything else fits....Roost

Well the Corvette transmission has a special tail shaft on it specific to the C4 so you'll have to get rid of that and use a different tail shaft. Or adapt some **** to make it work

I am guessing you would get more accurate information if you found a 79 1/2 T lwb forum and ask your questions. Can't imagine too many people on a Corvette forum having done this.

That would be a good idea, except nobody on a truck forum knows anything about vettes. It's my understanding that the vette tranny is different than a normal 700. I would think people in this forum with pre 84 vettes have swapped out to get the OD hundreds of times, and know exactly what all it entails. All I wanna do is pull motor and Tran together and put it in a truck.

The trans for the most part is a 700R4 with a different tailshaft to work with the C-beam in the vettes. The build of the 700R4 between a vette and a truck is different in some details however if this one was rebuilt for high horsepower those things shouldn't matter (search "corvette servo"). You would need the correct tailshaft, trans mount, and then a crossmember which could be made or swapped.

..... The TH 350 tail housing is a bolt-on to the 700R4 … you might not have the correct speedo drive stuff but that's the worst case …..

To use the c4 700r4 you will need to fab a rear mounting system. The c4 output shaft in the transmission, the part the driveshaft slides on, is approximately 3/4" shorter than the standard 700r4. It's more common C4 guys will shorten standard 700r4 shaft and transfer C4 housing. IDK that a standard 2wd output shaft housing will work well long term. You could try it see how it works out. 700r4 driveshaft is shorter depending.on which THM350 you have. Other choice keep and use the THM350 and sell the 700r4. The engine is just a bolt it.

There are plenty of articles on the subject. Just do a simple search. Here's one...

Well then, if you figure this has been done hundreds of times on pre 84 vettes, then the best place to get information on what it entails is the C3 forum.

see this is why i came here, the c4 tail is different. The article 383 linked says o hell yea, bolt right on, but dont consider i'm using a c4 700, no fauly of 383's i know and thanks for that link bro. Other parts in that link are for sure helpful, says if i have aftermarket carb i'll need a kickdown adapter bracket, plug the T350 vacuum line, and i'll need a new tv cable and dipstick. Linkage should be just fine. Says 82-84 has lockup controller already so i shouldnt have to add a lock-up kit ? Driveshaft, we have a driveshaft place close by and he can cut and weld however i want it.
And why is this canadian all up my anus, he must like it up there....Roost

thank you Kevova, C409, and tgurnick for your help now i'm getting somewhere. I think they spent over 2k on this thing so yea i want it in my truck lol

Suit yourself Hoss. You need to unknot your panties. I said if you need the best information to do this job, the best place to ask would be in a forum where this has been done - the C3 forum.
