hi all,
what is the safest way to install my refurbished
ecm
install and then connect the battery ?
or
connect battery then install ecm
my gut tells me to connect the battery first.
just lookin for some solid advice and hopefully all my previous issues are nonexistent. thanks in
advance for the help
As a general rule, touch ground (ie: the frame, etc) before you touch the ecm (or other sensitive electrical components). This will remove static electricity from your body if by chance you have built up a charge. Doing this is one of the first things I learned when I was getting into building computers for folks.
good morning all, just installed my refurbished ecm
took the car for a spin and within the first mile the check engine light came on and i didn't feel that the car was running right. After about another mile or so the light went out and now the car seems to running/idling fine. just curious if the initial start up and check engine light had something to do with the ecm relearning the system. at this moment all seems normal
thanks bill, it seems to be running fine except i have what i'll call a recurring misfire. this went on long before the ecm issue.. it seems like around 3000 rpm holding steady in third i get an occasional misfire i can rev past it and shift and dont really notice it. .another issue is my ac acted up turns out it needed a charge . had it recharged and the clutch doesn't engage. if i hot wire it it comes on. i've checked the high and low pressure sensors no change. it is climate control and when i run the temp up the heater works. any ideas?
For your AC you need to pull some codes. My guess is that you will have an "09" for low on freon. Your clutch works with a jump, so jump your low pressure switch and if the clutch comes on, you have it. If you "charged it yourself" without the benefit of gauges, you could have just as easily overfilled as underfilled--- either way the system needs to be at spec to operate properly.
As far as no codes on your engine, a stumble may be a fuel injector issue or spark plug.

hi bill thanks for getting back to me as far as the AC charging I had it done professionally even though I had a business for forty years Plumbing Heating and Cooling I realize automotive air conditioning is slightly different but works on the same principle so it is charged properly as far as the misfire goes that seems to be inherent in the car as it has
been going on for a couple of years. I just installed a brand new set of plugs which I had done eight thousand miles ago and when I was having a problem with my ECM all eight of my plugs were carbon fouled so I replaced them I checked for codes on my climate control unit and there were none I also checked for codes on the ECM just to check after the misfiring and it was clear I think what I'll do tonight is run the motor in the dark and spray the spark plug wires with water even though they are only 8,000 Miles old along with the Opti and coil Etc. luckily after having the ECM refurbished it's running pretty good at least for the 20 miles or so that I drove it my plan would be after a hundred miles or so to pull a couple of plugs to see if they're fouled in anyway. I'm not what you'd call a greenhorn when it comes to Automotive repairs , as i have restored 4 cars . however in my day it was points plugs and condenser so once Electronics come into play I'm not too snappy. I've had 11 vets and 7 of them have been C4S three of them which I bought brand new in 84 85 and 86 who luvs em more than ido?
the key would b to find a shop that specializes in them but so far in southwest florida where i live i have no found one that knows any more about them than i do
hi bill, forgot to mention when the motor was running with a long screwdriver I place it on the top of each fuel injector and you can hear them clicking away pretty steady without a skip. I realize that's a primitive way of operating but without a stethascope its a decent substitute
My 92 Vert had a miss and I unplugged every injector, one at a time, and listened for a change in the engine speed. I found that my # 8 injector was bad. I had listened with a screw driver at first but it sounded like the rest of them. Kevin
thanks kevin, i'll give it a whirl
the only thing is that it seems to idle ok
it usully mifires while driving. but i'll run that test
to see if i notice anything.
