I am wondering if I have this, I have no remote. Did all vettes come with them, just some people throw them away or something? Or is it an option? I would really like to have this system, but don't know if it's possible to just get a remote and program it or not.
I believe the RPO code is AU0, check your sheet in the car. I know it came out in 1993 as standard equipment not an option so unless somebody pulled out the unit, you should have it. But double check before you order the fob's they aren't cheap.
First consider whether you want the PKE or not, before you spend the cash for a remote. I personally am not impressed with the system. Reliability issues aside, the lack of manual control over the door locks is frustrating, not to mention an annoying honk everytime it locks the doors. Generally I leave PKE turned off. Just food for thought.
Well even if I don't like PKE, I would like keyless entry(I hate using the key to unlock the doors). It would be so much easier with a remote to push the button on. And who knows I may not like PKE, but I'll still have a handy little remote keyless entry.

You might want to re-read JasonL's respone. The C4's PKE is unlike most other keyless entry systems. For the driver's door, there's no option to lock and unlock manually--it's automatic or nothing. (There IS a lock/unlock button on the fob, but it's for the passenger's door.)
PKE is fun for the first few weeks, but the novelty quickly wears off, and it'll eventually get on your nerves. I still keep it on because I like having the ability to remotely pop the hatch.
You know I didn't know people were agrivated with the PKE system...I really like it... When I get to where I am going I don't have to remember to lock my cars because it automatically locks when I walk away...If someone tries to break in the horn starts blairing away.. :smash: till the remote gets back with in disarming range... You can set it up to only unlock the drivers door and you have to push the button to unlock the passenger door and you can use the little remote to open the rear hatch too....Now the horn does honk when it arms but this helps me to know that it locked when I left the car.
The best thing is the girls really love the fact the car unlocks when I walk up...they can't figure out how i do it with my remote still in my pocket.. I just tell them I am pushing the button on the remote but not with my hands...
Get yourself a PKE..when you don't want it to work you can disarm it anytime...its really easy :seeya
