Default 88 corvette issue

Hi everyone, I have an 88 corvette the issue I’m having with it is the service engine light keeps coming on I lose power, throttle response, car spits and spudders unless at full throttle poor fuel milage. The code coming up is map sensor error but my car doesn’t have a map sensor on it. I’ve replaced fuel filter and pump, new spark plugs and wires, new distributor cap and router I’ve tried everything but still have and issue. One forum I read said to unplug the ecm unit and let sit for an hour plug back in and issue should be gone tried that and same problem came right back. Any suggestions or advise would be greatly appreciated thanks

My 91 was having issues causing roughness and code pointed to MAP. I pulled MAP off and cleaned connectors and my issues ceased. Check electrical connections related to manifold.

On the 1988 model Corvette they used a MAF sensor not a MAP sensor. You might be lucky and just have dirty connections at the MAF which is located on the large air tube from the air filter heading towards the throttle body on the 1988 C4's.

I have a 1988 C4 Coupe and the MAF is an important sensor for the car. The wire that detects how much air is moving by it is like 1/10 mm in diameter. The proper functioning of the MAF burn off relay is important. I replaced both of the relays that are part of the MAF system when I replaced the MAF unit to ensure everything was working properly.

I would be very hesitant to unplug the ECM. Instead try disconnecting the battery for five minutes and that will clear the codes stored in memory. Disconnect the ground strap first, of course. This will do nothing but clear the codes and when the MAF acts up it will appear as another code. There are ways to switch over to a MAP sensor in place of the original MAF sensor which is far more expensive.

What happens when you disconnect the MAF? Does the car run better without it?

Just out of curiosity how old is the oxygen sensor in your Corvette?

Best regards,
Chris

Had the same code. Removed and cleaned the MAF with throttle body cleaner and replaced the two relays that control the sensor and burn-off circuit located behind the battery. Solved the issue for me.
