I bought a weatherstrip kit on Ebay. Looks the same as stock for the most part. It fit pretty well. Now the doors are real hard to close. I'm hoping these rubber seals compress so the doors close easier. Also replaced the outer felt and inner window guides. The outer felt was a royal pain. However, I'm getting some wind noise now. Is this normal?
The "hard-close" on the doors should subside with time. This can happen with certain manufacturers weatherstrip that is stiffer than the original. It will settle in. As for the wind noise, you said you replaced the inner window guides -- if those guides were not formed exactly the same as the originals it could throw your window adjustment out of whack. Can you tell where exactly the wind noise is coming from? ie; along the edge of the glass or around the door? Does the glass make contact with the A-pillar, roof, and B-pillar weatherstrip along the entire edge?
I'm going let my wife drive me around this weekend so I can move around a little and find the noise on the passenger side. The driver's side seems to be coming from the front of the glass by the mirror.
Sometimes a little silicone grease or oil can make the seals work better faster. Every winter seals start squeaking and I just add some silicone oil to the surfaces of the door seal and with this stuff the door don't freeze shut or stick shut hard in the winter. If you use grease it is harder to apply when it is not really hot in the middle of July. Try the oils and you should be happy with the results. Just have your wife drop you off at a Pep boys or such and you will be on the way to quiet seals.
The noise is fairly common when you put new seals on a Corvette or pretty much any car. The silicone will not break down the rubber and it really quiets down the squeaking. A lot of wipe on tire products have silicone in them and that will work on your door seals as well.
