hi! My name is Rory, i just recently purchased a 92 c4 corvette. it was running perfectly until I decided to change my kenwood single din stereo with a kenwood double din. (i really wanted to have the hands free bluetooth). Anyways I wired it using the harness and it was working but not installed yet. As i put it in my security system went off and now I have absolutely no power what so ever. Anyone ever encountered this? Its really baffling.
i checked the ones in the passenger side. i dont see any near the battery compartment. however i did put it on a charger and the charger didnt find the battery. tried the neighbors. same. So i took off the pos and the neg terminals and the battery started to charge. there must be a short or a bad ground somewhere but I only changed the stereo and it was working. hmmm.
A good working Fire Extinguisher is always a smart thing to have around as well when you have a major short in a Corvette Don't connect the battery to the car while you have a short like that. No power at the fuse panel?
There is a tool called the Power Probe which would really help you find the problem. It alows you to supply battery power or ground to the item the tip is touching using a rocker switch. An awesome tool for finding electrical issues in Corvettes!
Find your fusible links and verify that they are still "good". I don't know where they would be on a newer version of the C4. On my 1988 C4 they get their power directly from the battery (+) and are designed to protect the electrical system. They burn through the outer wire occasionally, you need to verify that they are still good. They are probably not far from your battery.
