Can we stop discussing how much the oem cam is better then anything aftermarket. I’m not new to modifier cars only American pushrod v8’s. I come from German cars.
This 94 coupe I bought has a bad lifter. So I’m going to pull the heads and have them cleaned up at the local engine builder here.
.
Might as well spend the shipping cost and send the heads to Lloyd Elliott(LT1s only), they come back plug and play (springs, valves, etc..), he can port the intake as well and do a custom cam....if you go this route, just call him, he's very helpful

We were typing at the same time.... I will bow out now, but just so you know, the LT4 hotcam is NOT a factory cam that was used in production. It was designed for off road use..... again, not production.
Have a good day.
You want valve springs to match cam. If cam is not damaged, new springs and 1.6 rockers will change characteristics of old cam. The difference in ratio causes little more valve duration and lift. Drippers on underside of stock valve covers need to be trimmed in over .490 ish valve lift
Take a look at the Trick Flow 430hp top end kit. You can get cam specs and spring rates from the package details. Your heads won't flow as well, but it looks like you don't want to discuss that.

I always hear these rumors of better cam, etc. But have yet to see it. Now I know there are cams that can make more power, but they are at the cost of driveablilty......
& longevity. Hotcam runs pretty good considering its a small cam, great for a driver.

I'm glad you mentioned longevity. To get increased lift you either need rocker ratio, or aggressive lobe profile.
The former increases lateral forces to the rocker geometry, and the later increases lateral forces on the lifter. Lateral forces increase friction, which means your engine is more sensitive to poor lubrication.
GM designed the LS series with a bigger cam core diameter and 1.7 rockers included in the geometry for a good reason.
Well to update the thread I ended up buying a built lt1 and 4l60e package from a guy semi local. Lunati cam, crane springs, roller rockers , 3000 stall, flashed pcm and harness etc.
to ad context I had a bad lifter in my motor and my trans was shot. So buying this package cured all my issues then building a motor and then building a trans. Half way through pulling the old stuff out. Coming from only owning and working on bmws this vette is so easy to work on
orting your existing heads sounds cheap, until they get into them and find bad guides, seats etc. and then those charges are on top of the porting cost. Also, you will likely have shipping both directions. I learned this the hard way...
Many forget/overlook this. Most ltx heads are over 20 yrs old, most are gonna need guides.
Doing a valve job without the guides being right is money flushed right down the toilet. I wouldnt listen to ANY estimate on work or a package til they tear yours down and check them.
Dont know how anyone can go through heads, put new valves, seats port etc for 800 not happening.
There will be an upsell, "We found" or a corner cut somewhere. If these heads were a few yrs old its a safe bet guides are probably fine. The "better"cams...ok some are. But at what cost? Pounding the valve seats/tips to death for an increase you may never feel? Pass.

Nice. You probably just saved yourself alot of money and can skip straight to enjoying your car
Agree, If you don't know talk to LLoyd. he is an expert and willing to help every step of the way. he ground my cam and called it at 50 hp gain and hit it spot on.
