I'm looking for a shop or 4+3 specialist to service/repair my 4+3 transmission (again) in the Northern VA area - or ANYWHERE on the East Coast. I'm fully aware of the benefits and shortcomings on the 4+3, but I'm giving this thing 3 strikes before I part out the car. This would be the second repair/rebuild, and I'm happier rebuilding 3 times rather than doing a ZF or Tremec swap given the overall condition of the car.
Awesome intel. Thanks. I have my thrust washer in a nice plastic baggie...after it broke into 3 pieces and ended up in the pan. I'm hesitant to do the ZF swap for the same reasons you outlined above, and I don't want to sink a bunch of money into an engine/drive train swap. Too many electronic systems that could be fubar'd and the car's not in that good of shape anyway. Could be a good shell to eventually build a track car, but it seems like such a waste for such a beautiful car. But as I've learned as I've aged, beauty is only skin deep!
After watching the video, it looks like I have a planetary system washer in my baggie, not the thrust washer as I was led to believe by my local shop. Either way, thanks for the intel and I'll keep doing my homework on this. Can't believe I didn't turn to YouTube sooner...
