Most cars had OBD2 in '96. I think. The Vettes started putting in a OBD2 connector under the dash I think in about '94 or '95 but it was still an OBD1 computer. If I'm wrong about this I'm sure others will correct me.
...OBD-I (On Board Diagnostics) codes on the 1984 through 1993 model C4 Corvettes via the 12 pin ALDL connector located under the dash just to the right of the steering column.
1994 and 1995 C4s also had the OBD-I system but used a 16 pin access connector that would become standard for the OBD-II system used on 1996 and later Corvettes...
If you have the service manual, OBDII has the five digit code. Like say P0124, etc. Letter followed by 4 digits, OBDII codes.
GM Tech 1A scanners with typical Mass Storage Cartridge will containg data through 96. The Snap On cartridges may have some domestics running 83-97. Typcially, OBD II cartridges will start at 96-current.
