Default 84 Dash Cluster Question

1984 Corvette

I changed the Polarized Screens on my dash screen, i can now at least see the numbers.

But its very dim, i tried shining a light on the little hole, with no luck.

Anyone else have this issue or know a way to fix

Not sure if you've been here. But lots of great info for the eventual cluster problems. http://batee.com/

Batee also has the testing procedures for the sensor. Do you get any light at key on? I'd test the photo cell then go from there.

Does the display light up when you turn the head lights on? If so it’s probably the photo cell if not there is probably an issue with the bulbs or the circuit that powers them. When you took the dash cluster apart you would have seen a row of pins that connect the two circuit boards together. Sometimes the end pin is burnt, I think that pin feeds power to the four light bulbs. And of course Batee is the font of all knowledge.

BATEE.COM is a "one stop" shop for anything to do with the Digital Dashboard and the C68 electronic A/C controllers! In the process of rebuilding my dashboard I just replaced anything that was questionable and Batee.com supplied the parts including a new photo cell.

He is "The Man" when it comes to fixing any issues with your dashboard. He is very generous with his knowledge and shares a lot of information with his videos. He pointed out that the components in the dashboard electronics used a bunch of electrolytic capacitors and they have a life expectancy of 15 years. My C4 is 32 years old, I wonder why there were issues with the dashboards and C68's. Inside the C68 there is a connector made of nylon and it warped in my unit making the connections iffy at best. I soldered the wires directly and eliminated the connector strip as per the instructions on the Batee.com website.

I bought the parts and did the work myself, it was fun and easy to do with his support and information online. I was shocked to see the burned marks on the original PC boards caused by the lights that illuminate the dashboard. Batee.com sold me a set of new bulbs that don't make as much heat and do the job splendidly.

I am an extremely satisfied customer of his and I make sure others hear about him. He supports us and our Corvettes so we should support him!

Best regards,
Chris
