I have a bad idle problem and I think it is related to a vacuum leak. While looking tonight, I pulled the switch. I took a picture to post but the websites are not working yet. The switch had to vacuum hoses on one side and nothing on the other. It really looks like something should be on there. The emisions diagram on the radiator doesn't show anything else going to the switch so I am probably wrong but.....
I blocked the vacuum fitting on the bottom of the TB and the idle improved. If my description of what I think is missing is not clear and you think you can help if you see the problem, I'll email the pic.
FOrgot to add: today I got a few codes. 32, 33 and 36.
Do you mean the solenoid that's bracket mounts to one of the bolts on the thermostat housing? If so, it has two vacuum hoses and nothing on the other side, that's how it should be. Although, there should be a little piece of foam on the backside between the two little metal tabs, it acts as a filter.

That is exactly what I am talking about. The filter is missing. THANKS
I forgot to check last night to see if I still have my old one. But, I will check tonight and you can have it, if I still have it, and if you want it because I don't think you can buy just the filter, and the whole solenoid is about $25.

That missing filter isn't going to cause any problems with your idle. It is probably a bad egr valve or a bad egr control solenoid. Apply vaccum to the egr valve and see if it can hold it. If the diaphragm is ruptured it could cause a vaccum leak and idle problems.
I put an EGR diagnostic method on my site; which should resolve the code 32.
Replace the MAF Burn Off relay to deal with code 36; this may also take care of the code 33 since the sensor wire is no doubt contaminated due to the failed burn off circuit.
I drove the car to work today with the EGR switch un-hooked and the vacuum plugged. It worked great and the EGR code didn't come back. the only code now is the 36 and I'll mess with that this weekend.
Thanks for the help. I'll need to get the EGR working but for now, I'll run without it.
