People generally equate 'good' with 'cheap' rather than equating 'good' to 'quality.' And so they get what they get.

It seems to keep things observably clean.
Does the driver mix it or is it done at the terminal level? IDK but I thought it was mixed at the terminal level not by some driver scooping this and that into the tank?

Probably because gas is gas and the difference is the additives?

If the person doesn't try to convince themselves of that, they won't be able to buy the cheapest crap they can. Gas, food, car parts, anything.

Absolutely true. However, the eye isn't worth much in this case. Your injectors can look as clean as far as the eye can see. The flow bench might say different. After starting the engine for a few seconds, my diesel oil looks as black as when it went in. Test of the oil might say different. I can tell you that using top tier gas for the most part since that is pretty much the usual station near my house, I do have some deposit on the injectors as the flow bench reports. I usually do it on a 3 year basis.
