I have a 1989 C4 Convertible. I want wheels that have a wide lip on them, high gloss black with 5 straight spokes not convex. I currently have 17" stock rims and would like to get as wide a lip as possible. Can I go to an 18" or 19" rim on this year C4?
My current tires are as follows:
Front - P275/40ZR17
Rear - P315/35ZR17

You can go with 18s or 19s, but I'm not sure how that addresses your quest of getting "as wide a lip as possible." Maybe I'm misunderstanding what you're after, but it sounds like you want less offset for a more concave or "deep-dish" look. Another way of asking this is: did you mean you want the lip to be wider from left to right (inside to outside), or do you want it taller?
You're pretty locked in on offset in the rear: 50mm is what you'll need, regardless of diameter, because 11" and a 315 is about the max you can fit within the fenders on a C4. Up front, you currently have 56mm stock offset, and you could go with less offset there and still not poke out of the fenders. For example, 32mm with a 9.5" wheel width and 275s would fit the same on the outside edge as an 11" with 315. This assumes you want to keep your current "staggered" widths. You can also go with as much as 11" front width and a 315 tire, using the same 50mm offset as the rear. This looks really good, and gets comments from people who usually ignore C4s.
Of course, different style wheels have different widths of lips. I have any any good brand/model recommendations, and 18x11 are going to be a little bit rare in the correct offset. Keep in mind that you can always go with more offset than required and then use spacers to get it where you need it. This is just my opinion, but any wheel diameter larger than an 18 looks kind of goofey on a C4. These cars are so much smaller than the modern-day behemoths that tall wheels just don't look proportional.
Yes the look I want is the deep dish look in high gloss black. Are you able to suggest a wheel company that can do a staggered deep dish 18" or even 17" at a reasonable price...maybe $600.00 per wheel?
Do you have any photos showing the look that gets comments?

Thanks,

You are probably going to spend 900 per wheel for custom wheels to start. Maybe CCW is the cheapest these days. I would just get the ZR1 Replica mold type with the lip on the rear. There is a company on here advertising them. The dished ones fit 88-96. I have an 87 so will probably get the standard non lip ones.

Sheppard1 your pretty limited on the look your trying to achieve due to the amount of backspacing/offset and I'm not sure of the year but I know the earlier years are different size
offset than later years.
Matthew Miller is spot on as with backspacing and offset. I wanted the same as you and with the wheels I wanted I had to have them made and even then settle for the front tires tracking 1/2" wider than the rear due to not being able to remove anymore material from the mounting surface of the front wheels so the compromise is the fronts track 1/2" wider than rear tires.

I don't know of one for a five-spoke. I'm sure they're out there.

The first picture is of my 96 with 18x11 Forgestar CF5 wheels (50mm offset) and 315/30/18 BFG Rival S tires at all four corners. I think the wide fronts really make the car look more aggressive. These wheels can be had in gloss black. They don't have a wide lip, but they are considered a "deep concave" look because the spokes go inward a fair amount as they converge on the hub. They are under $400 each, so...maybe worth a look?
These 17x11 AFS replica A-mold wheels have a bit of a lip, and they're cheap cheap:

How is the driveability with this set up? I still want to tour with my car. It looks like you're racing this set. So all 4 tires and wheels are the same size? Are you experiencing any turning limitations or rubbing issues?

All four wheels and tires are the same size. I drive to and from events on the Forgestar setup, and I have street-driven 315/35/17s of various types extensively. There is no rubbing or turning limitations. The only thing that's worse than stock size is the tramlining. However, I run roughly -3.3* camber in front and -2.5* in back, so it's likely that with a more street-oriented alignment the tramlining would be reduced.
