Please excuse my ignorance concerning the VATS system, but I have a question concerning my 92.
I can normally hear when the fuel pump primes my fuel rails at key on. If I had a VATS event (like due to having the wrong key resistance) could I assume I would not hear the fuel pump prime?

Check it. Use a fuel pressure gauge so you can see if it spikes up like it should and holds. If it is weak, you can see it on the gauge. If you don't see good fuel pressure, check and see if the pump is even being activated.
I'm new to vettes, but I had a 92 Camaro with intermittent VATS malfunctioning. For the Camaro, two modifications needed to be made in order bypass VATS - there is a so called crank disable relay, which needed to be shorted, and a PROM replacement for the ECM with VATS disabled.
Before I got the replacement PROM I was driving around with the crank disable relay shorted. If VATS malfunctioned I could crank the engine but fuel pump would be disabled. Might offer a clue.
