Part identification and help getting broke fitting out of block
I was putting the engine back in my corvette, the hoist dropped too fast and broke off a part on the backside of the engine. It broke off at the block right next to the intake manifold. Anyone know what this part is? What does it do? Is it necessary?
Go to the junk yard look for Caprice,Buick Road Master's And Camaro's generally V8 GM
will see if we can find another source
you could probably make a fair replacement in the plumbing section of hardware store I did this when I put a Oil Pressure gauge in my Camaro as well keeping the light

I have a replacement (junk engine from donor car. My thread should have said I need help getting the broke part out of the block. The intake is in the way. I really dont want to have to take intake off in order to drill it out.
I suspected you where going that direction, can you get straight line access try a extracted here's a link for a tool just to show a sample you can get at Lowe's or auto zone https://www.harborfreight.com/12-pie...set-95530.html
You don't want to be drilling in your oil gallery. Eazy out is the only option.
Thanks...that's what I was thinking. Hope I can get in there with one without taking off the intake. Theres a little notch of the intake hanging over it.
You should be able to get an easy out on that pipe pretty easily.
If you need to use a Dremel tool and remove the extra metal in your way. But COVER the hole very well, I might even put a rag in the hole to keep foreign matter out of your Oil systems.
I have seen internal pipe wrenches that would remove that part very quickly. Any metal shards or flakes making it into the engine will potentially do damage. The Easy out would be the first thing to try, it should back out fairly easily.
Like mentioned above, DON'T drill the pipe out, simply find an easy out or an internal pipe wrench and take it out. I would probably put some penetrating oil on the parts first. If it is stuck use some heat from a hot air gun and see if that helps free it up!
Thanks Chris...I'm trying to find an easy out. No parts store around here has one. I'll call my mechanic friend now to see if I can borrow one from him.
