My BLM,s were running 108-118. I lowered my fuel pressure and now they run right at 128 however when I pull into the drive and let it idle they shoot up to 138. I this a problem?
I bought the car dead and built a 383 so I have no baseline to work with. My BLM,s were rich until I lowered my fuel pressure. Now under normal driving they look fine except at idle. I know Detroit attemps to run a lean idle for pollution purposes. I wondering if it pushing it too far.
If those cam #'s are @ .050" lift,... that cam is not that radical. As far as how to fix the idle BLM problem, getting a PROM made will fix it. The 86 is rather simple, compared to the later MAF or MAP cars. Are you still running the stock chip?
The cam was supposed to be about at far as Crane (Compucams) felt I should and plan on using a stock chip. I am indeed using the stock chip. I'm hopeing to play with fuel pressure and timing and get it to the point its driveable. Chip programming will come later this winter. I plan on doing the research and burning it myself.
If you messed with the MAF meter at all the idle will be off.....
As for the little you are off, don't even worry about it. If you get into doing the chip I can give you a little secret to get it dead nuts on the first try for idle, but you won't be able to tell one bit of a difference.
I did adjust the TPS. I noted my IAC readings were real high. I assumed that the reason for that was I now had a few extra cubes so I needed to crack the throttle open a little so the IAC would step down to 10 or so. (Chevy EFI injection book said that 4-10 was a good setting for the IAC it just occured to me that the book wasn't specifically written for the vette though) I gave the throttle a little more opening at idle and the IAC did drop but now at idle it hunts a little. The next time I run a scan I'll have to check the tps values-----snow on the ground now so it may be awhile. My throttle shaft does have a little too much play. It could be responding to a vacume leak at the shaft.
