Default clutch replacement

The clutch in my car grabs in about the last 2 inchs of pedal travel. It shifts fine and dosen't slip. The car has 63.000 miles on it.I guess it's time to rplace the clutch.I've done plenty of them on other cars.Any tips or tricks on how to do it.How hard is it and how long should it take to do.How do you remove the pin that hold the reverse sleeve in place.

unless you have been mean with that clutch, it should have another 20k to 30k miles left in it. I got about 93k miles out of mine.

however, the reverse lock out is pretty clear once you get in there... not hard at all.

as for the clutch... the real concern is the weight of the ZF6.. its about 150lbs... you will have to have a jack to help move it around and support it.

a few tips:

get beam plates. they help mount the tranny to the c-beam much better. I have them - I like them

get the hurst shifter. you will so love it. from what I have read here on the forum, hurst is better for driving and autocrossing, whereas the B&M is better for drag racing.

stay away from SPEC clutches... :U I had nothing but fitment problems with mine... total POS. I ended up going with factory GM.

You will need new bolts for the flywheel/pressure plate.

consider new clutch master/slave.

The dual mass flywheel cannot be machined. new ones are EXPENSIVE. You may wanna check around... you might find a low low miles used one for CHEAP.

you can get a single mass, but balancing it does become annoying. zero balance does help a lot, but you still might get some vibration.

A popular conversion is to use a Camaro flywheel and friction disk with a corvette pressure plate. check this link:

RAM is also a good alternitive, there normal clutch package is just GM stuff at a good price. it's a valeo pressure plate and OEM disc, it's just cheaper than the dealer. you also have the option of buying a camaro disc {sprung hub} and vette plate if you use the single mass disc. if you want a performance upgrade & don't mind spending more i'm very happy with my SM conversion. if you just want a general OEM replacement & plan on reusing your stock DM just call summit racing & have them look up the corvette clutch kit made by RAM. it's something like $300 complete & you want a $5 bushing part number cu656. if you want to do a SM conversion just ask questions & i'll be more than happy to give detailed answers since i just finished a SM conversion on my car this year with great success. :chevy
