The Service ABS Light recently came on, but I was unable to retrieve any codes. (My car is a convertible, with the "P" Engine) In jumping pins A and G, Module 1.7 and Module 4.7 were O.K. with no codes present. However, Module 9.7 showed Err. The brakes seem to work fine and I confirmed the fluid was full, although I did add a little to see if this solved the problem, but it didn't. I also checked the ABS Fuse in the Engine Compartment and it was fine. I was hoping that someone to give me some tips on troubleshooting this Service ABS Light. Since the light has been on, the ARS Switch doesn't work. NOTE: Several months ago, when my Service Engine Soon Light came on, the code retrieved was Quad Driver Module #1. As previously mentioned, I don't have any codes showing now other than the Err Code in Module 9.7. Does my problem suggest that it might be the ECM? If so, is there anything I can try before searching for a refurbished ECM? If not, does anyone have any recommendations on a place to send my ECM in for repair, or is it better to try and find one out of the Junk Yard? Thanks for your help.
Yes, I have the FSM Large 2-book Set. However, the Service ABS Light came on just a few days before I had to come back offshore to work and I didn't have much time to look in the manual and troubleshoot. When I first looked for the obvious, like checking the fluid, I found that the connection was bad on the Brake Pressure Warning Switch, but that doesn't illuminate the Service ABS Light. The FSM said that would cause the Brake Light to come on, like when the Emergency Brake is on. The causes with the Service ABS Light are normally with the ABS Wheel Sensors, ABS Control Module, Modulator Valve, Lateral Accelerometer Switch and Pressure Modulator Valve. I was hoping that someone may have a good starting point for me, or a quick fix like adding Brake Fluid which I tried and it didn't work. I just hope that since I don't have any codes that my ECM isn't bad!!! Especially since I have the Err Code in Module 9.7 and the SES Light which I guess is still on due to the previous Quad Driver Module #1 Code I had months ago.
Thanks for the information on the ABS System being totally separate. I'll have to borrow a friends Snap-On "Brick" I've been trying to get him to sell me for 2-years.

No, the ASR Light is not lit. In the past, if I'd do a burnout both the ASR Light and Service ABS Lights would occasionally come on but clear themselves. Both these lights came on once when my Brake Fluid was just a little low, but topping off the fluid was the fix. ChumpVette indicated that the ABS System was separate from the ECM, which I understand now. Is there any way to check the ABS System without an ABS Scanner. I thought Module 9, that you toggle to when jumping Pins A &G, was the one with the ABS System Faults, but again I get Err when accessing Module 9.7.
Thanks. I'd read about this technique, but thought the article stated it only worked on 94 and newer vehicles. This should get me pointed in the right direction!!!
Are there any fuses to check, other than the one in the engine compartment? Also, any relays? I'm sure my FSM has this information, but I currently don't have access to it and I'm trying to get a game plan developed for when I get home. I should probably quit worrying about it until I see what codes are present when I jump Pins A & H.
