I bought a L98 TPI 350 from a guy. He said it was out of a 94. I didn't give it any thought at the time but 91 was the last year for the L98. It is a 90 or 91 TPI cause it has a MAP sensor instead of a MAF sensor. The Corvette was a 94 (he sent me pics of the VIN). Was putting a L89 in the early LT1 cars a common practice or is this just a rarity. The block is a one piece rear main with a 94 casting date and the heads are the aluminum #10088113 casting. So I guess what I'm getting at is Has anyone ever heard of someone doing this?
My guess is that someone swapped a 1994 vin into a 1990/91 car. That would be a pretty difficult swap as the wiring harnesses are a LOT of work to swap.
First, don't forget L98 was available in the F cars until 92.
Just out of curiosity, you said he sent you a pic of the Vin... but was there a pic of the engine actually in this car?
The short answer is there was no 94 Corvettes with an L98 from the factory and likely the swap is more complex than going backwards is worth versus sourcing another LT1.
I would say either the guys is just pulling you chain or there is a very interesting story in what happened to the car they guy has that you bought it from. Theft/Vin switching, possibly.
OP bought the engine not the car. Engine appear to be speed density because of snorkel isn't right for MAF. It could be modded since it was pieced together. What are you planning to install it in?

I bought it cause the price was right. $200. No real plans yet. Might just sell it.
