1985---overheated a little on the way home.....pudldle of water under crossbeam under pulleys....haven't got it up on a hoist yet but pretty sure it's going to be the water pump....doesn't look like a fun job....my question is....is there a better water pump available? better that stock?....don't want to do this twice......thanx....Paul

ive done 3 out of 4 of my c4’s and ive only ever used the white box stuff.
note the hidden bolt on the ac bracket under the compressor. its a torx but you mist search to find out exactly the right size. even one size too small and u will strip out the bolt and that sux. google this hidden ac bolt.
are you quite sure your cooling fan is operational? short a and b and the fan should come on. if not, you may found the real culprit. for me, my fuseable link to the fan blew because the rad fan motor was drawing too many amps. (original high mileage 86)
many ways to seal the water pump, my choice is hylomar installed per the hylomar instructions (quite different from rtv) on the paper seals, and permatex aviation form a gasket on the bolt threads. in one instance i did use the aviation formagasket on the paper seals too and it worked great.
