I have a good feel for my 2002 C5 and can tell if anything feels abnormal or not. Same goes with my 2000 e38 BMW. My 93 C4 is the newest to my collection and one I drive the least, so I am not as familiar. I would assume a vehicle going on 30 years old with a V8 and as small as the c4 would generate some vibrations fro the engine at idle. My question is how much is normal? I know it is kind of hard to answer as there no terms of measurement for this and I cannot let you "feel" it for a point of reference. It isn't ridiculous to the point it seems like car is about to blow up or tear apart, and it seems to calm with acceleration. I just changed oil for first time since I have had it last night from 10w40 full synthetic to M1 5w-30 full synthetic high mileage and though I have not driven it yet, the start and idle seemed to be much smoother already. There are 84k miles on the odometer. Any information from more experienced C4 owners are MUCH appreciated. Thank you
My 96 has the "vibration" of you're talking about the shaking feeling at idle. Personally I like it. It makes the car feel alive. I'm assuming that the C4's have more vibration than C5's and I think it's the rougher idle that the Gen 1/LT engines have. They changed the firing order in the LS engines to make them run smoother.
Youll feel it running but shouldnt "vibrate" like somethings wrong. The TPI cars with batch fire will not be quite as smooth. Impossible to suggest what may be wrong at this point?
My exhaust has been shaking on my '90. Then had a bad miss when accelerating.
Turned out it was a plug wire that came loose. I dunno how it came loose, though, especially since it kind of has to double snap onto the plug itself.
Anyway, I was poking around under the hood today and noticed it. Popped it back on and took it for a drive and the problems went away. So that was that.
