90 dimmer multi function switch part- help identify what all needs replacing
While fixing the tilt pin, this piece broke off in the dimmer/turn/multi-function switch area. Upon further inspection , this seems to be the piece that connects the turn stalk to the dimmer rod on the column. Would a multi-function switch (pictured below) include what I need? Thanks. part broke from 90 corvette dimmer switch
, and what does this piece look like it broke from? I have the wheel off but can't get a plate puller until tomorrow and want to go ahead and order the part that I need. Thanks! (tips on what all I need to pull would help too...the manual seems to show I can leave the ignition switch in place).
Do I need this...

Do you see any broken edges on it because it generally floats and slides, the 1/2 moon presses on the end of the Dimmer rod and is held in place by the side cover and if memory serves there may be a square nub by the rod or on the cover that works as a guide.

Thanks! Thats it. I am wrestling with the column right now. I just got the shroud off, do you have a picture of how that fits together? I thought it would be obvious once I got the cover off but as for now it is not. Also, I did buy the multi-function switch earlier as I thought it would be what I needed, figure I would replace it while it is off, the a/c delco switch I got today is identical EXCEPT there is a black wire on the current connector that goes to a ground on the column that the replacement switch doesn't have, the pin for it isn't even there. Are you familiar? Here are some pictures... new switch missing ground wire to column
Maybe they expect you to remove the ground terminal from old loom and move it to new? As for the assembly of the slide I know the 1/2 moon rides on the end of the rod and I believe the guide for the slide is in the cover pieces.
Buy the dimmer actuator locally! GM # 7827028. Pin D is I believe not populated on a new directional switch. Item #24 in your image orientates the dimmer actuator.
The turn switch itself seems to be cracked and I can’t find that part anywhere, GM or aftermarket. That may be the reason I can’t get the dimmer slide to fit properly. I have the column tilt cover all the way off. I ordered the slide but not sure that is going to be all I need. It seems like I need to put the tilt cover back together and on the column before I try to install the turn switch and dimmer slide. I may try to plastic weld the turn switch . What a pain.
I have put the slide in with all put together just side cover off, used a few choice words but did it.
Try to insert a photo of what you feel is cracked.

I can't figure out how this goes, here is the crack....

you have many apparently cracked/broken parts there. either your car has been the Victim of a Very Rough Mechanic or a Thief those Wounds are common in a Lock Punch out (Futile VATs) You might get away with not having to replace them in a lot of cases their just ugly but functional but you would need to go by a Case by on the replacement.
The slide picture (Like this?) correct location but I believe it's out 180(Disregard out 180 is correct as pictured ), the 1/2 moon on the slide pushes against the Light rod end. if you notice the rod has a curve to it the 1/2 moon allows the slide to follow no matter what position the Colum is tilted. Now the other of slide has a Flat area on the other end that is pushed by the finger on the Directional Lever.
. I would like to make a correction the like this photo in post #12 is correct that is way it goes, I got turned around on the Tilt lever hole. So as pictured good
Got the thing back together, even thought I had a chance to have fixed it. Now , somehow, the steering shaft has moved toward the steering wheel and it will not connect to the steering linkage, how the h$ll did this happen? I have done everything I know to try to push it down, I’m now about an inch and a half short.
Give a bit of a tug on the very bottom of shaft it's probably part of the collapsible steering column and to allow for slight difference in manufacturing
. Also I hope you have been good about NOT letting steering wheel and shaft turn to much, you're Air Bag Clocking spring/wire coil only has a few turns of error and if you run out of wraps wire will break throwing an Air Bag light and then Will need to be replaced and that would require top 1/2 taken apart top of Directional plate.
I am way past that, so many things wrong I am just getting a new column, I will do the factory clockspring reset when I get it or find one. Two days of this is all I can take . I did get it together but I don’t trust it .
A big thanks to S Carter and WVZR-1 , both of you were a big help. At this point I could do the column rebuild in a hour or less not counting access time. I could probably use this column but I had to fix some plastic parts that are no longer available. If I can get a reman column I would feel better about putting that in there due to the labor hours it takes to RR the shaft. I did have to repair the wiper switch and the plastic housing but the biggest issue is a stripped 7mm bolt at the shaft end of the column that holds the bottom in place. I could not successfully drill it out. If I can't find a reman column (BTW what is the difference in a 90 verses 91-93) I will take it to a machine shop. The video's linked I had watched , and many others, the Corvette has a few different parts like the wiper switch, a few different inside pieces... I guess on the metal clip- the diagrams were not detailed enough to see, but I put it under the buzzer electrical clip and 97% sure that was right. Anyway, again, thanks!

The springs and retaining clips just hangs loose at the bottom of the shaft? I got the clearance back, just looks wrong but I didn't look at it before hand and can't see it on my other cars.
