I need more info...

1) miles on car

2) age of waterpump

3) age of coolant

4) did the A/C work?

5) age of radiator

6) stock t-stat?

with the LT1's the waterpump comes with the t-stat installed. hence the questions.

Does kinda sound like the tstat was stuck closed.
Replace it with a stock 180 or a 160.
Clean off the front of your radiator, this contributes ALOT to overheating.

what was the timp on the digi display. the digi display is what the computer sees, if it said 260 and the fan was not on then your fan may be bad. check the fuse panel next to the battery.

Ok ,when it overheats does it have a knock with enegine off? ( coolent slam)and check the radiator tanks at the ends of the radiator, are the the same temp or is one side cold and the other side hot, if they are the thermostat is stuck closed!

Right now I think I would look hard at the radiator It could be "limed up" internaly, pump sound ok if you see coolent moving with the cap off
I dont think you have a bad head gasket unless you see white smoke out of the exhaust or the engine oil is "milkey" indicating coolent inthe oil
