Does anyone know what type of coating the hose clamps have? I have a 93 and when I removed some hoses I scratched up the clamps. Are they painted or is this a special coating of some type?
My ‘96 clamps are Stainless steel with no coating. If you bought your vette used some retailers spray the engine compartment with a high gloss coating to make it look nice. This leaves behind a coating on everything that can just be cleaned off the clamps.
I bought mine from an individual and the clamps are OEM clamps. They are a dull black and I didn't have the correct tool to take them off and they are all scratched up. I thought about painting them a flat black but was wondering what the original coating is. Are your clamps the constant-tension OEM or the worm drive type?
My apologies, I just went out to take a look. The upper hose and air filter feed tube are stainless so I assumed they all were ( insert assume saying here🤪.
The lower hose and heater hoses are the black anodized.
Sorry to say, not sure how to repair scratching without replacing.
these are all factory clamps from ‘96

Reason: Correction
Thanks for looking! So, you think they are anodized, I couldn't tell, I thought they might have been painted but I doubt paint would hold up as long as anodize has. I only need two small ones so no problem buying those, it's just finding them that's the problem.
Anodized is just a guess because of the durability. Could be some sort of black oxide like the body screws used to hold in inner fenders to the car? I just am not sure. Good Luck and let me know if you find OE style clamps.
