By the way, BOSE home systems are no better. It is just common sense. To make good sound (esp. bass) you need to move air. Tiny little speakers don't move air. You can pipe. channel and tube the sound all you want but it still comes out of a tiny little speaker.
My home system is Paradigm. Cost about as much as a higher end Bose and will blow any Bose system away. Any system that you can buy at a mall is not top end no matter what their marketing department tells you.
Nothing...yea I said nothing is wrong with using the BOSE system....so what does everyone think....like I don't know....but I like it.....fine with me...
Best mod I ever did was to pull the Blose and install aftermarket,. The sound is 3 times better. I thought my Blose sounded good too, until my amps went and I decided to replace everything. The aftermarket was so much better, it is hard to describe. Now for the bad news, I received compliments with the Blose too, with the new system I can't get people to get out of the car :D
It sounds so real, neighbors come running out of their houses because they think the band is going by
Dump the Blose, it is well worth it :yesnod:
Just recieved my rerplacement rear speakers...including whole assy....of amps...etc..in a new enclosure...
So far I replaced the pass. side.......great sound.....I'm happy...must still replace the driver side.....suposed to change in pairs....right???? right....

Seems like most of you don't like the Bose is because when you made your purchase, the CD player didn't even work. How can you say it sucks when you haven't even heard it? I stick in a CD, open my rear hatch, and can crank the volume all the way up without distortion. I do it at parties all the time. No comlaints yet.
That's why I say it sucks! Cause it doesn't work... I don't care how good a product sounds, if 75% of them don't work properly.
If I ever buy a car new, I'm going for the stereo delete option. :yesnod:

Mine worked perfectly, but I didn't let that stop me from installing the best I could afford at the time. Since I did all the work myself, that allowed me to spend a little extra on components. I like all kinds of music, so I needed an adverse system to keep up with my uncontrollable urge to hear whatever I am listening to as loud as I can stand it. Click on the sound system link in my syg to check it out.

I repaired or replaced everything including the cdm through Dr. Don. When I turn on that radio people stop talking and just listen. It works great and I love the original look. I have no bone to pick with anyone over stereos and I am by no means an audiophile. But I do know what sounds and looks good in a 91 corvette and the original system is unbeatable in both categories, in my opinion.
I would guess that, if you surveyed the field and checked ages, you would find that the greatest dissatisfaction with the original system is among the younger owners while, generally, the greatest satisfaction with the original system can be found among the older owners.
If I had a midyear corvette which only came with AM or AM/FM I would not alter it for one of today's high-tech systems. I think within this perspective lies the answer to this friendly but lively disagreement.
Well, my mom's 87 has a Bose system with a 12-disc Eclipse cd changer mounted in the right rear storage compartment. It sounded decent for a while right after she bought it, but then one of the speakers started going nuts. Turns out it was the speaker/amp combo in the right front kick panel. We took it out, and the crazy noises stopped. The car now has three speakers, yet it still sounds decent. The other amp is starting to fail as I have to turn the volume almost all the way up, but it hasn't yet reached critical replacement mass, and I doubt it will bother my mother enough that she replaces it.
On the other hand, I bought my '94 with an aftermarket sound system. 2 polk mids in the kick panels, two alpine amps, and two 10 inch Rockford Fosgate subwoofers. One of the subs broke free of its mounting in the box, so I had to remove the whole thing. Now, with only two speakers, they have begun to scratch at high volume. I plan on replacing the front speakers and fixing/replacing the subwoofers. I was quoted $600 to install a pair of JBL 6 inch speakers in the hatch area, so I think I'll hold off on that one for now.
The bose gold system in my '91 was pretty good...when it worked. It wouldn't play burned cd's ever, and half the time would not play at all.
Okay, I see your point. But until my system goes, I'll stick with Bose!
(a little rap pun thrown in there) Thanks for the advice, I do appreciate it.
I'll go aftermarket when the Bose goes.
That is what I did. Probably one of by better moves. God knows they have been few and far between..
I felt the same about the Bose also. It looks great in the car, and sounds good enough. I spent about $300 with Dr Don to make it all work, sound better, and last longer. It is a VERY GOOD factory sound system, especially considering its from 1991!!! I did finally however break down and buy a new head unit. These new flip down faces with the nice displays and MP3 with remote for $200 are just too good to pass up on. I really wanted to be able to hear MP3s in there without adding a component in the car. I was using my IPAQ with a cassette adapter until now!
I will keep the Bose for resale though. The new technology and low prices are what made me change my mind, otherwise I would be happy with the Bose, all the resonance I have with my new mods dont help either!!!!
