Several weeks ago I drove my Vette in a heavy rain storm. My supercharger requires my air intake to be located under the right headlight (bottom, front end of the Vette) and with the rain my Vette sucked in some water. Fortunately the water was not able to make it into the motor but it did contact the MAF sensor.
I took the MAF off and let it air dry out. After dropping the MAF back in the car it started up and drove somewhat normally. A couple of weeks (I don't drive too much) later my car started hesitating / stuttering at slight throttle at above 2500 rpm. At full throttle I don't notice a problem.
Could the water have damaged my MAF? Should I replace it no matter what? Anyone know where I can get one for cheap?
P.S. Enough time passed that I also added my Intercooler to the mix and that may also be causing some of the problems. I have changed out my ignition coil, plugs and checked for boost leaks.
I don't know if yours is bad, I would think you could hook up a scan tool and see how it is performing to verify that. If you are looking for a replacement I would look for a Wells SU145. I bought mine at a local parts store. They are supposed to be better than the Bosch units. They don't use that thin wire, they use a thin film thing. Cheaper than Bosch, supposed to flow better, and more durable. Good luck.
The wires are intact and the unit appears to run, car starts and is driveable. I'm just wondering if water, a whole lot of it, could short circuit the MAF and cause sporratic problems.
