I have a 96. I do use a locking cap that I believe is vented. Car runs perfect. I do not get any pressure build up in the tank. Dan
Something keeps telling me it should be a non vented cap. That's what I have on there now and I still don't even get so much as a short hiss when I unscrew it. Pretty sure it's the original cap.
The definition of vented is very misleading. For these cars they are vented but have a check valve in the cap that lets air in only. The pressure goes out to the charcoal canister, no air can go out through the cap. I learned this the hard way. I bought a sealed cap. . And it pulled enough vacuum in my tank I had to use water pump pliers to get the gas cap off.
I ended up just buying a cheap Duralast locking cap from Autozone today. I don't generally care for Duralast's stuff, but it was cheap and came two in a pack. I dunno why they sell em two in a pack, but it's what I got.
They're pre-vented and came with two sets of keys.
