Went out for a drive today, nothing too hard but I was getting on it a little bit, anyways when I stopped I noticed a small puddle under the car, I pulled it forward a bit and it was coolant, I just replaced all of the intake manifold gaskets two weeks ago and I havent had any problems wiht that, I checked under the hood and didnt see any of the sighns of the manifold leaking...also there isnt coolant leaking out in puddles like it did at first, not its only a few drops....car isnt running hot and I havent gotten a low coolant light...yet...it seems to be from under the motor somewhere. Any ideas?
Did you take off any of the hoses, if so check them first. Then check the oil dipstick to see if you have any water in the oil, if not you are probably getting a leak from some other source. Are you absolutely positive its coolant, could it just have been condensation on the car somewhere or water caught in one of those places that it does not seem to drain out until you move it?
yeah it was definitly coolant, I had also thought of the idea that it could just have just come out of somewhere because I had made a few really hard turns just before I noticed it...I am going to try to get it up on the hoist at the beginning of the week, unfortuantly that is the soonest I can get it up there, unitl then tho I am gonna lay underneath it with a flashlight tomarrow morning.
A couple of things. Jack up the car (safely) and clean off the underside of the motor as bes you can. Put some paper towels on the ground underneath the area of the leak. Lower the car and check it the next morning. that should help pinpoint whcih area you need to concentrate on. I don't know if your car calls for the sealent pellets when you change the coolant out. There area lot mixed thoughts on this subject from forum members. However, (knock on wood here) I have used them for 10 yrs on my 92 and NEVER had a cooling or coolant problem. They lube the pump and help seal the system. Opinions are like fannys, everyone has one and they are entitled to their own. I just know what works for me. Sorry for this being so long but hope it helps.
Well I was able to put a pressure tester on the system this morning and the leak was simply a lose hose clamp from the upper radiator hose to the manifold...thank god
