Looking to replace both calipers on the front of my 87 c4...just wondering what y'all all use, or recomend.....price is a issue, however I'm not looking to go out cheapest.... I've found some on EBAY for $200 (raybestos) for the pair....or $150 (cardone) for the pair.....I've seen $125 for one....
C5 front brakes are a good upgrade. But you will need a caliper bracket adapter so the C5 caliper bracket will bolt to the front spindle. You may find them on eBay. Then you need all of the C5 front brake stuff such as calipers, C5 caliper brackets, rotors and pads. Because the C5 rotors are close to 13" in diameter, you will need 17" diameter front wheels. Also a rear brake bias spring that goes into the master cylinder (Doug Rippie has the springs for ABS-equipped C4's. Get a set of stainless brake lines for all 4 wheels They are not "required" but if your flex lines are original, it's a good time to replace them.
As far as prices, when I did my C5 conversion on my old '87, I bought most everything from Amazon, Rockauto, or a few of the CF vendors. I also did a complete fluid flush using ATE TYP200 DOT4 fluid.
I recall that the total cost for all the parts was around $600. I bought the red-painted Z06 calipers The base C5 calipers are the same as the Z06 calipers: the color is the only difference.
Cruiser,...thanks for the info!...I've read on here about that conversation, but rite now I'm just looking to go back stock. Was really wondering about how people fell about the quality of the refurbished parts, or new ones....with the way the prices range from cheaper to more expensive for the same part makes me wonder.....
I buy alot of stuff off ebay, really because that's the first place online i started buying, and its convenient to me.....
just dont wanna buy some crap, and they go bad on down the road.
I havnt checked at the part stores near by the house yet, I know they'll have to order them also, so just tryin to cut that up charge out....
